WHO'S BEHIND THIS?

ABOUT ME

My name is Tobiáš Frýdl. I am a second-year student of production at Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. I come from a family of a priest of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, I have seven siblings.

The connection between faith and different relational orientation is something that has been a longstanding interest and concern of mine. It saddens me that Christian men and women (as one of the minorities) often fence themselves very harshly against lesbian, gay, bi and trans people. Likewise, I am sad that many people get ideas about Christianity and its attitudes towards queer issues based only on the extremist and fundamentalist rants of some vociferous individuals.

If this project of mine becomes a friendly step towards mutual rapprochement and understanding, I believe that the half a year of work and the funds, which I have invested from my own resources, have not been in vain. If my project gives at least some people the courage to speak openly about their identity (not only) in a church setting without fear of condemnation, I will not consider my efforts useless.

AWARDs

On November 11, 2023, I was awarded the Jan Opletal Prize in the category Personalities under 30 for civic engagement, public education, volunteer work, and other socially beneficial activities.

On December 10, 2024, I received the Award of the Government Commissioner for Human Rights, Klára Šimáčková Laurenčíková, in the Innovation category.

On March 14, 2024, the project was presented in the Chamber of Deputies under the patronage of its President, Mrs. Markéta Pekarová Adamová, and in the presence of the President of the Senate, Mr. Miloš Vystrčil.

On July 15, 2025, I had the opportunity to present my project to President Petr Pavel and First Lady Eva Pavlová during a meeting with young active citizens at Lány Chateau.

My gratitude goes to everyone who accepted the invitation to participate in the Faith in the Colors of the Rainbow project and found the courage, time, and willingness to speak in front of the camera. For some, it meant traveling long distances or devoting considerable time to preparation — which makes me appreciate their participation all the more.
